Bluehost Review
Bluehost was founded in 1996 by Matt Heaton who formerly ran a successful free web hosting business. Bluehost.com is based in Orem, Utah. According to the CEO Matt Heaton, the location in Utah provides a superior cost base over Silicon Valley based competitors. Bluehost has a mission to pass these savings on to its customers. Bluehost´s data center in Orem is steadily expanding in order to support the growing customer base.
Hosting features at Bluehost.com
A simple but very convenient feature at Bluehost is the possibility to host unlimited domains on one hosting account. Bluehost employs the CPanel interface that gives users a clear overview of all administrative tasks be it programming, databases, statistics, files, etc. With Bluehost you get a generous bandwidth allowance of 3000 GB/month and 300 GB disk storage. The scripting environment is very liberal. For instance you can create a custom php.ini, a custom .htaccess file. The most common programming languages like PHP, Perl, Python, CGI and Ruby on Rails are supported. For business users Bluehost provides an SSL certificate, shopping carts like Agora, Cube, Zen, OS-Commerce and supports open PGP/GPG encryption. Bluehost.com only offers a Linux hosting plan, hence Windows applications such as .ASP or .NET are not enabled.
Bluehost customer service
The customer service at Bluehost is friendly, responsive and knowledgeable. From my own dealings with them I can say that I was able to get a helpful reply to one of my queries on a Sunday within 4 hours! The support recently switched to a ticket system that works equally well. Just state your problem, leave your contact details and they will get back to you asap. The knowledge base in the help center provides a lot of helpful tutorials. In addition Bluehost has a forum where users assist each other and every so often tech employees drop in to answer queries.
Bluehost technical information
The Bluehost backbone uses a OC 49 connection. Bluehost´s data centers are located in Orem, Utah. They are located in two separate buildings. Both buildings require key cards whereas the building which houses the newest servers requires two key cards and a handprint to gain access. Both facilities feature raised floors, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), secure server cages, and a diesel power generator. The servers are being observed 24*7*365 by technical administration staff.
