HostICan sucks – or does it?
One of the elementary jobs in researching and writing a decent web hosting review is to perform a “sucks search query” on your favourite search engines and see what comes up. Here’s the good news – I did this for you.
Google’s number one hit for HostICan sucks is the hosticansucks.com website which is owned by Hostican. Other than that there are two results from the HostIcan forum which can’t be accessed anymore. The remaining entries are complaints about other hosts that “suck” including a recommendation for HostIcan.
So, you can see the search engine results confirm that HostICan is a good and reliable web host.

I am having difficulty deciding between Bluehost ot HostIcan.
Can HostIcan good support make me choose it rather than a myriad of free goodies that Bluehost offers like the free site promotion & google ad credits?
I am leaning towards Bluehost now.
Do you want to exchange links with my Movie Special blog?

Bluehost and HostICan are both excellent companies. The question is whether you need the free goodies at Bluehost. If you are a hosting beginner I would lean towards Bluehost as it has a friendly, active (inofficial) user community. It’s nice as a noob to be able to fire off a question. Blog hosting is easy both on HostIcan and Bluehost. This blog is hosted on Bluehost for instance.
If you do decide to go for HostICan there is a hidden $10 off coupon at the bottom of the start page. The link is titled “feeling lucky”

HostICan is one of those companies that can let you grow where as BlueHost is “out the door, when you’re too big”… HostICan is the right choice as you can grow with a stable company…

I was ripped off by Hostican.I searched a lot for a good hosting, having ready may sites with reviews etc on many hosting companies.Eventually I had shortlisted to a few and contacted each one to get some responses. I must say that HOSTICAN impressed me with their livechat online and I spent quite some time there with the people they had who answered all my questions and doubts and told me that it was an easy process to move the host etc…they even offered to move the files for free etc. I have kep all the conversation logs for anyone that might be interested. In all the conversations they were very clear that I lose nothing in trying as they had a 30 day money back guarantee….If I was not satisfied I could get a refund and not lose anything, specially as I was not going to use their offer for a free domain registration (I already owned the domain).
After convincing myself that it was time to sign up, I indicated the Hostican team my details to move the files from current host to their servers. All went smoothly until the moment came to change DNS settings and wait for the site to go online on the new servers of Hostican. The site would not come online due to some database problems and after much attempts by the livehelp staff they came to the conclusion that I needed a developer….that it was beyond their reach. This was on a week-end…so I changed the DNS settings back to the old host so that the site would be operational the next working day.
Since they wanted me to get a developer, I had no choice but cncel and ask for a refund, although I did tell them that if they could look at the matter with some time, I was willing to let them try to get the site working. But they gave up and refunded me the signup fee MINUS $40.00 which they say was for the file transfer they did for me (which was supposed to be free) and was contrary to all that the livehelp transcripts pointed at.
I was shocked at this attitude and complained, but to no avail.
The only thing I can say is to point this out to any future client to look-out and clarify better (I dont know how – I was very clear in my questions to them still I got ripped off).
It is a shame that the company had this attitude with me.
I hope that they make the info on their site a bit more specific to ensure that it says that file transfer costs 40 USD but they cn offer it to a client if the client stays and does not cancel within the 30 day guarantee period.

I once read on a blog that the blogger employed CCC (controversy creates comments). Putting sucks in the title seemed to work.
Dhiren I give you the benefit of the doubt. Your story doesn’t make HostIcan sound like an outrageously bad host though. I must admit that I read through their transfer pages a couple of times and I never saw that it cost 40 USD to move the files. If this is indeed the case they should change that and display this clearly on their page.

Hello Hostmaster,
Thank you for taking the time to verify HostIcan website for any mention of the 40 USD cost….as you saw, it is not mentioned anywhere and besides that all the transcripts of the chat I have with their livehelp assured me that it was a zero cost try…if not happy then would not lose anything.
I dont say that HostIcan are a bad host, but would like to point out that their attitude in implementing the 30-day money back guarantee was not justified. I am at a loss and feel that I was ripped-off and would like to make sure that others who may sign-in with them in future and may be in the same situation as me may not have to be ripped off like I was.
Until then I think I have the right to complain and try to get my 40 USD back

Dhiren you sound like you’ve been smokin some….
July 31st, 2007 at 8:33 pm
Well Dhiren, has made his points and as I have learned I am just one of many blogs where he posted this story. He had a bad experience with his transfer.
As far as I know he moved to Hostgator and had some start up problems there but I hope it all worked out fine.
Many people do a “sucks” query every month and still more people find this thread when they search for “HostICan sucks”. Yet only one of several hundred visitors posted a bad experience. And the only visitor who went on to complain about a negative experience stated that “I dont say that HostIcan are a bad host”.

As far as my experience with HOSTICAN was , it was really an their attitude really SUCKS.
Since then I have shifted to HostGator and only have ggod words for their work. They were efficient and helpful and I am VERY HAPPY with their service.

dhirren is a lost soul. i moved from hostgator who were horrible to hostican. hostgator is a virtual web hosting company meaning their tech support sucks when their supplied hosting back end fails. it happened a lot. i think they are in the verge of bankruptcy as they blow donkey balls. as for hostican, they are not virtual which is a big difference.

I’m interested to hear about this as well as I’ve been seriously looking at moving to Hostican from my old host because of the same issues (i.e. not delivering on VPS promises, poor performance). Please fill us in on what happened and what has been done.

If you’re unsure about HostIcan I can recommend Liquidweb. Mind you this blog post ranks 1st in Google for “HostIcan sucks” which is why you get a slightly biased picture about this particular host here. I will soon launch a review section where users can post their experiences and that will give you a more balanced view of HostIcan.

HostICan is a good company. I’ve been with them for a bit, their pricing was a bit steep, but now ……. they have lowered their pricing, and their great. You can’t go wrong for like a few bucks! – Its less per MONTH then 1 Gallon of fuel for the old banger.

I have been with HostICan for several years and find their service to be wonderful. The support that I get is a very big pro….the engineers really know what they are talking about. The price is not bad either considering the quality of product and service. I plan on being with them for many more years!

I really like HostICan. The set-up was free, I got a free domain name and they gave me Google AdWords credits! I also found a coupon so it really worked out! The uptime is great, the customer support is wonderful and 24/7! I recommend them to everyone!

HostIcan by far beats competitor and previous host provider that I have ever used. After using them for a few months, I have learned that any problem I occur they can easily help/fix. They are really understanding and great for individual business or company looking for professional host. Also the user interface is so easy that anyone can create a website.

I had been using a different hosting service when I realized I needed more storage space. HostIcan.com had great rate for the storage and later I found they had great technical support, I generally know my way around a web site, so I only prefer them for hosting. I am growing my business with HostIcan.com. You can also rely on them.

Since joining HostIcan.com in January I have nothing but high marks for all aspects of this company. Currently I have a VPS account-starting with sales and ending with support all I have encountered is extremely awesome. A year ago I joined HostIcan.com. I chose HostIcan.com because of the many praises posted for their technical support.

I have been with HostIcan.com for almost 6 months. HostIcan.com is quick. They are reliable. Their support stuff responds quickly to any issue whether it is billing or domain support. I forgot to say about their price. I am satisfied with their price. I like their package rate. I got everything what I need in this package at a cheaper rate.

I have been using hostican.com for over a year. It is easy to join with them. They are good at web hosting. Their price is not so cheaper but if you consider the other company’s price then you will understand their price. You can compare their price with their service. I am surprised to receive their service. They are very user friendly. You can get every answer of your question from them.

I have been beyond impressed at the speed of your support team. Last night I had a database error show up at about 7:10PM. I had seen this once before but it was on a table that did not hold any important information. So I dropped the table and recreated it. Well it happened again last night and it was on one of the most important tables in my database. I put in a support ticket at around 7:15PM, and by ~7:40 I was back up and running. At 7:51 I received an email that telling me what the problem was. I just wanted to let you know what I thought so far. Keep up the good work. Hopefully the good things will continue.

I’ve just upgraded from a Reseller to VPS Hosting and I must say although I’ve had a few issues, the tech support team has been absolutely amazing at sorting all of them out. They’ve transferred all my files, packages, settings and everything, sorted things out when I’ve been an idiot and messed them up, fixed bugs in sites with me and have helped sort everything out DNS wise when things were going mad! So thanks guys, I couldn’t have done it without you and hopefully I’ll learn enough to stop needing to rely on you so much (mind you, with support like they give, who can blame me for wondering if I need to!)
