HostICan coupon

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

HostIcan doesn’t officially award coupons so there isn’t anyone out there in the world wide web who can offer you one. The only HostICan coupon that I am aware of is right at the bottom of the HostICan entry page. Click on the link “feeling lucky” and you will see a “$10 off” coupon for new customers.

Why is this a good, affordable web host? Read my HostIcan review.

HostIcan coupon 2nd try

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

First of all my previous post about a HostIcan coupon was a blunder and I probably let a few people who wanted to try it down because it didn’t work. First of all I would like to apologize for that and give you some more info on how this mess up came about but first let me give you the new working HostICan coupons :

* 12 months base-host: $95.40 $75.40 – Save $20 with coupon code baseplan-12

* 24 months base-host: $166.80 $116.80 – Save $50 with coupon code baseplan-24

* 12 months tera-host: $143.40 $93.40 – Save $50 with coupon code teraplan-12

* 24 months tera-host: $262.80 $212.80 – Save $50 with coupon code teraplan-24

You can redeem all of these coupons now and they are valid until the 29th of January 2009!

So now some words as to why the previous coupon didn’t work. A guy from HostICan contacted my and offered me a coupon. Of course I was thrilled by the possibility to offer my readers a good coupon from a reliable host and requested one. So we emailed back and forth and the guy said he had activated my coupon and the name was HostIcan-50 and it would give everyone $50 of all the aforementioned plans. That was in early December. A couple of days ago a reader notified me that he had tried using the coupon and it wasn’t working. Quite peed off by this news I emailed HostIcan only to find out that said coupon had never been activated. So I’ve been warned and will double check these coupons from now on. If you try to use the coupon and whether it works or not please leave a comment so that I’ll know about the state of the coupon codes.

Hide or remove the navbar in Blogger

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

I had a blogger.com blog previously and one of the first things I did was to remove the navbar. Since then blogger has updated to a new system and I wasn’t sure whether the old css trick would still work. The good news is that it still does work even though your blog may take a while to update. Mine usually takes about 20 minutes to show the changes. To remove your navbar just use the css code below:

#navbar-iframe {
   display: none !important;
}

Just enter that somewhere between the other css # ids. If your navbar is not removed after doing this (and giving it another half an hour to update) please post and I’ll provide a few more methods which are more complicated but work just as well.

For paid blog hosting I would recommend HostICan, Lunarpages or Hostmonster.

HostICan sucks – or does it?

Monday, May 28th, 2007

One of the elementary jobs in researching and writing a decent web hosting review is to perform a “sucks search query” on your favourite search engines and see what comes up. Here’s the good news – I did this for you.

Google’s number one hit for HostICan sucks is the hosticansucks.com website which is owned by Hostican. Other than that there are two results from the HostIcan forum which can’t be accessed anymore. The remaining entries are complaints about other hosts that “suck” including a recommendation for HostIcan.

So, you can see the search engine results confirm that HostICan is a good and reliable web host.

HostIcan achieves perfect score

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

All of the webhosts I reviewed are award winners in different categories. HostIcan‘s latest accolade is a perfect score by Real Metrics for the category of shared hosting. HostIcan’s performance was measured on the basis of support response time, web speed, uptime and peak uptime. One of the reasons that made me create this site is the fact that nowadays webhosting providers like HostIcan offer a supperior business grade service at an affordable price.

A transfer from one Web host to another

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

Transferring from one web host to another can be quite time consuming. You need to download and upload all files from your old host to your new host. If you have dynamic content you need to import and export all your data. Nowadays some hosting firms offer to make the transfer for you if you sign up with them. Some of the hosts I reviewed are offering to make the transfer for their new customers.

HostICan will buy out your previous contract up to $40 and do the site transfer for you.

Hostgator also offers a free website transfer service.

Lunarpages does not offer to do the transfer for you but they add on up to six months of your previous hosting contract for free!! In addition they offer a 90 days money back guarantee

Adult Hosting

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

If you are looking for adult web hosting there are three good affordable web hosts who permit this content. I became aware of this while browsing various knowledge bases for other stuff. HostICan, Lunarpages, and Hostgator are among the best affordable web hosts in the business and if you want more detailed info about their plans please go to my main webhosting review site.

Hostican states that you can host anything as long as it complies with US law. You may be asked to upgrade to a dedicated server if your site uses huge bandwidth or processor capacity. I have a more detailed analysis of this host’s features in my HostICan review.

Lunarpages is another cheap web hosting firm which has no problem with hosting adult content. On their site they state:

“Yes, we do allow adult sites to be hosted here. Lunarpages has no restrictions upon content of your website as long as it is legal as defined by California law.However, adult sites that require extreme amounts of server resources and bandwidth will not be accepted.

Please thoroughly read our “Terms of Service”, http://www.lunarpages.com

We allow all kinds of adult sites except, free tgp (thumbnail gallery posts), circular pop up sites and free image galleries. Other than that, feel free to be as adult as you can be under the law of California.”

For more info on Lunarpages please read my Lunarpages hosting review.

Update: Thanks to a post in the Hostgator forum I became aware that they offer adult web hosting as well. Check their knowledge base and T&C for specifics. Make sure you go to my main site and read my Hostgator review.
